Το πιο γνωστό αν όχι μεγαλύτερο torrent site στην Ελλάδα, το gamato.info, πλέον δεν λειτουργεί καθώς η αστυνομία προχώρησε σε συλλήψεις των διαχειριστών του σε μια οργανωμένη κίνηση, αποτέλεσμα μήνυσης που κατέθεσε η Ε.Π.Ο.Ε. στο τμήμα δίωξης ηλεκτρονικού εγκλήματος. Για την ώρα έχουν προσαχθεί 6 άτομα από την αστυνομία, ενώ καταζητούνται άλλα δύο που διαμένουν και βρίσκονται στο εξωτερικό και έχει εκδοθεί σήμα από την Interpol για αυτούς. Η IBM δημιούργησε μια νέα γενιά ολοκληρωμένων η οποία ενσωματώνει φωτοηλεκτρικά κυκλώματα για την οπτική μεταφορά δεδομένων. Σκοπό της τεχνολογίας αυτής είναι να ενσωματωθεί στους επόμενης γενιάς πολυπύρηνους επεξεργαστές της εταιρίας, επιτρέποντας την μεταφορά των διαύλων δεδομένων από κανάλια χαλκού [ηλεκτρικό σήμα] σε κανάλια οπτικών διαδρόμων. Με αυτό τον τρόπο πιστεύει πως θα ξεπεράσει τα προβλήματα και τους περιορισμούς που βάζει ο χαλκός στη μεταφορά δεδομένων, επιτρέποντας έτσι και τη δημιουργία ταχύτερων διαύλων για την επικοινωνία μεταξύ πυρήνων, ολοκληρωμένων αλλά και διαφορετικών συστημάτων, όπως για παράδειγμα servers ή υπολογιστών σε ένα cloud. Η Google δημιούργησε μια υπηρεσία, με σκοπό να βοηθήσει τους κατοίκους της Χιλής να εντοπίσουν συγγενείς φίλους και γνωστούς. Η ανάγκη για το εργαλείο αυτό δημιουργήθηκε από τον σεισμό των 8,8 βαθμών της κλίμακας Richter που χτύπησε τη χώρα πριν λίγο καιρό. Το Google Person Finder όπως ονομάστηκε επιτρέπει την αναζήτηση πληροφοριών για ανθρώπους, με το όνομά τους, ενώ οι χρήστες του μπορούν να αφήσουν πληροφορίες που τυχόν έχουν. Ο αριθμός των καταχωρήσεων μέχρι αυτή τη στιγμή είναι 76.500, κάτι που σημαίνει πως η υπηρεσία όντως μπορεί να εξυπηρετήσει το σκοπό της και έχει βρει απήχηση. Μια δημοσκόπηση για λογαριασμό του BBC, στην οποία συμμετείχαν 28.000 ενήλικοι από 26 διαφορετικές χώρες, δείχνει πως το 80% των ανθρώπων πιστεύει ότι η πρόσβαση στο internet πρέπει να είναι δικαίωμα του καθενός. Φαίνεται πως η ανακοίνωση της Φιλανδίας στα μέσα του Οκτωβρίου, που καθιέρωσε την ευρυζωνική σύνδεση ως βασικό ανθρώπινο δικαίωμα, έχει πράγματι βάση. να υπενθυμίσουμε πως όλοι οι πολίτες της χώρας έχουν νομικό δικαίωμα πρόσβασης στο internet με ταχύτητα 1Mbps, η οποία όμως θα αυξηθεί στα 100Mbps σε πέντε χρόνια. Η AMD ανακοίνωσε πως προσφέρει δωρεάν την τεχνολογία DMM, Digital Molecular Matter, σε προγραμματιστές παιχνιδιών. Η τεχνολογία που έχει αναπτυχθεί από την συνεργάτιδα εταιρία Pixelux, είναι ένα πρωτοποριακό μοντέλο φυσικής συμβατό τόσο με OpenCL όσο και με DirectCompute, ενώ ειδικεύεται στα υλικά των αντικειμένων. Η προ μηνός ανακοίνωση της Google πως θα προσφέρει πιλοτικά συνδέσεις 1Gbps σε επιλεγμένες πόλεις στην Αμερική έχει προκαλέσει αναταραχές στον χώρο των ISP. Οι συνδέσεις θα γίνονται μέσω οπτικής ίνας και αρχικά θα προσφερθούν σε 50.000 με 500.000 κατοίκους. Αποτέλεσμα αρκετές πόλεις στη χώρα να προσπαθούν να πείσουν την Google να προσφέρει σε αυτές τις υπηρεσίες της. Οι φήμες για το talbet PC της Microsoft ακούγονται εδώ και σχεδόν ένα χρόνο, όμως μόλις αυτές τις μέρες αποκαλύφτηκαν κάποια χαρακτηριστικά του. Η συσκευή ονομάζεται Courier, και χαρακτηρίζεται από στοιχεία υψηλής φορητότητας, έχοντας πάχος κάτω από 2,5 εκατοστά και βάρος μικρότερο από μισό κιλό, ενώ οι διαστάσεις του όταν είναι κλειστό είναι 12,7x17,8 εκ.
